Pinyin typing practice to remember characters
Each round shows a Chinese word with its meaning and reads it aloud; you type the pinyin without tone marks to move on. Hearing and typing together ties the sound, the character and the meaning, while the tool tracks speed and accuracy.
How to use it in 3 steps
- Pick a set: HSK 1, HSK 2, or shopping and trade.
- Look at the character, listen and type the pinyin without tones, e.g. 你好 → nihao.
- Check your speed and accuracy, then drill only the words you missed.
HSK 1 examples and what to type
| Characters | Pinyin | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 你好 (hello) | nǐ hǎo | nihao |
| 谢谢 (thank you) | xiè xie | xiexie |
| 学生 (student) | xué sheng | xuesheng |
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to type tone marks?
No. Type plain pinyin; the tone marks are shown under the word to see and hear.
Can I use a Chinese input method?
Yes. If your pinyin input method commits the right characters, the word counts as correct.
What if a Vietnamese keyboard adds accents?
A Vietnamese keyboard (Telex or number-based) may insert marks; Foxalo reminds you to switch it off.
Are my results saved?
The tool page does not save results. Sign up to save missed words to your word book and review them with spaced repetition.
Which word sets are there?
HSK 1, HSK 2 and a trade and shopping set; you can also paste your own word list.
